Deer Hunter's Christmas Tree

Chris Toliver sent me a photo of his Christmas Tree this year. As you can see from the photo, although he never misses an opportunity to brag about his trophy buck, his Christmas Tree looks a little "rubbed" up.

BBHE 2018 Off to a Bumpy Start

We are on the road to BBHE 2018, and we hit our first bump in the road. This is a sign that we are going to have a great hunt. All of the negative vibes went into the flat tire.

Bear on the Stapp Land

These photos were taken from a game camera of one of the members of the Stapp family. They own the parcel of land next to Buzzard Bluff.

We need to set up a more permanent toilet solution at BBHE. Who is going to volunteer to get one of those trees to grow like this?

Bubba: What're you talkin' about Cletus? Them deer only eat what they want.

Cletus: Nawww, that aint what I'm talkin' about, Bubba.

Cletus: I thank we put too much of that Viagra in them feeders!

BBHE 2018 is Quickly Approaching - Who's in?

Hunters:

We have about 3 months until BBHE 2018. That means it is time to get an official head count. Who's in for the hunt of the year?

If you aren't on the list it only means that I haven't talked to you about it yet. Speak up or forever hold your peace.

I saw some bunk bed cots so if we get more than 4 hunters we can either bunk up or bring another tent.

Rifle Inspections at BBHE This Year

This year we will be conducting rifle inspections to ensure that all rifles are clean and functioning properly. This is all part of the BBHE responsible hunting campaign. Please watch the video and try to get all of the moves down before arriving to BBHE this year.

GREAT NEWS!!!!! BBHE is Intact

I just spoke to Duke and he told me that he went out to the property with a lumber company guy to inspect the property after the tornado and he reported that everything is A-OK.

GAME ON in November!!!!!

Tornado at Buzzard Bluff

Hunters:

Duke has informed me that there has been a tornado at Buzzard Bluff, and according to Mr. Stapp, a  neighboring land owners, the trees on the property have been "decimated". Mr. Stapp is OK but his home was destroyed.

We don't yet know the extent of the damage or if the damages will prevent us from hunting there this year.

The following information comes from the National Weather Service:

Peak Winds: 110-120 MPH
Maximum Path Width: 1,000 yards (0.56 miles wide)
Start: 1.5 miles NNE of Rudy, AR (35.5490, -94.2621)
End: 3.1 miles ESE of Chester, AR (35.6730, -94.1222)

"Damage: Several trees were snapped and uprooted as it crossed Frog Bayou. Homes were damaged, outbuildings destroyed, power poles blown down, and cars were rolled off the highway. Several mobile homes were destroyed and tree damage was evident on Overlook Trail"

I pulled the map from the National Weather Service and drew on it so you could get a better idea of where Buzzard Bluff is in relation to the path of the tornado.

The blue arrow shows the gate to the property. The area circled in yellow is approximately the area where we hunt. The solid red line is the path of the tornado and the dotted pink lines are the outer boundaries of the tornado.

Here is an image that I took from 2011 that shows the location of the camp and different deer blinds that we use at BBHE. You can compare it to the map above.

Finally, I have tried to overlay the two maps so you can get a better idea of where the tornado went in relation to our deer blinds. It;s not perfect but it will give you an idea.

Time to start planning for BBHE 2018.

Opening day this year is Nov 10th.

You gotta start planning at some point, may as well be now.

I think that I might be offended, but I'm not sure....

A professor at the University of Mississippi was giving a lecture on
'Involuntary Muscular Contractions' to his first year
medical students.  Realizing this was not the most
riveting subject, the professor decided to lighten the mood

hunting with his buddies.'...It took 45 minutes to
restore order in the classroom....................
